CASTING NOW!

New Union Films is casting for a local campaign to be filmed throughout Haywood County, NC between June 16-20th. All roles are non-speaking, non-SAG roles for photo and video. Minimal hiking and light physical activity will be required for most roles.

If you are interested in applying for any of these roles, please email casting@newunionfilms.com with the name of the role, a resume or description of your experience, a headshot and a recent photo in the last 3 months (this can be a simple phone picture) and any sample work that may be relevant to the part.

LEADING ROLES

The story follows a boy as he grows up with his father, so these roles will depict the same person over time. This may require growing or cutting facial hair, or other simple tweaks during the shoot.

“John” as a boy / 10-12 years old, white male, medium height

John is a thoughtful, perhaps even serious young boy. Always observing his surroundings and taking in the scenery. He is outdoorsy, fun-loving and adventurous. He looks up to his father and cherishes their time together making memories, often observing him with an admirable stare.

  • Looking for a thoughtful, perhaps even serious kid with acting experience.

  • He needs to look similar to his two older counterparts. 

  • Should be comfortable walking in the forest, in the river etc.

***Our goal is to look for someone who may fit the role of both age groups with some hair and makeup tweaks. Willingness to grow and/or shave facial hair, or similar is a bonus***


“John” as a young man / 21-30 years old, white male, 6 foot (ish)

As our young John has aged his desire for adventure is as strong as ever, often returning to the mountains to relive old memories and make new ones. He loves his friends, is outgoing, and never shies from a good time. He remains thoughtful and attentive, soaking in and cherishing every moment.

  • Should be relatively athletic and comfortable outdoors.

  • Should look similar to both his 10 YO and 50 YO counterparts. He will be playing both a 21 YO and a 30 YO so ideally he will be able to grow facial hair and be willing to cut it. 

  • Acting experience is a big bonus, but not strictly necessary for this role. He needs to be comfortable being romantic with an actress. If he has a partner who also fits the role, great!

  • Ideally he won’t be a traditionally attractive person. Maybe more like Emile Hirsch in “Into the Wild”. However, getting people that look alike is all-important so that takes precedence.

“John”  as an older man / 40-50 years old, white male, 6 foot (ish), possibly some grey

Our now older and wiser main character is settling into his greatest adventure yet, parenthood. After a life of adventure throughout his younger years, he turns his attention to instilling the same sense of inquisitive and attentive perspective on life to his daughter.

  • Need someone with acting experience

  • He can be slightly younger if he has grey hair. 

  • Similar to his 10 YO counterpart, I’d like him to be a thoughtful, even serious person (or at least good at acting that way)

  • Should be comfortable being romantic with an actress 

  • Think an older Ewan McGregor with a beard

  • Looking similar to the 20-30 YO is most important

“Jane” as a young woman / 21-30 years old, white female, medium height

As John's future wife, Jane starts off as part of the friend group, growing clower to John over the years. She is naturally pretty and approachable, athletic enough to be comfortable hiking the mountains or jumping off rocks for a swim. She exudes a cool or hip vibe, giving the sense she is comfortable with a spontaneous adventure, but prefers a slightly more introverted approach. She acts as the calmer, more grounded counterpart to her future mate, the adventurous lead John.

  • Needs to be comfortable being romantic on screen

  • Should be attractive

  • Needs to be somewhat athletic - she should look comfortable jumping off rocks into the water, for example

  • Jessica Chastain is a reference

  • Needs to be able to put out a cool, hip vibe

“Jane” as an older woman / 40-50 years old, white female, medium height

Similar to John, her adventurous days have matured into living vicariously through her daughter. She still enjoys her trips to the mountains, though a book by the fire or a pottery class is more her speed. Her love for John is still visible, often sharing a glance or moments of connection as they spend time with their friends and family.

  • Needs to be comfortable being romantic on screen

  • Long grey hair would be fantastic 

  • An older Jessica Chastain would be great.

  • Goal is for her to be a good match for the Lead and resemble the younger version 

SUPPORTING ROLES

“Roger” (John’s Father) / 40 years old, white male, grey or greying, beard is a bonus

Roger plays the role of our young John character, setting the tone as the role model for our main character as he ages. He should have a similar adventurous quality to him as if he has enjoyed the outdoors throughout his younger years.

  • Need someone with acting experience

  • Looks like he could be the leads father

“Susan” (John’s mother) / 40 years old, white female, grey or greyish hair

This quick role establishes john’s love of family and desire to be a role model as we age him into fatherhood. Susan is a caring woman, family oriented, and loves her son.

  • Some acting experience as bonus

  • Needs to look related to lead role

“Jessica” (John’s Daughter) / 10-12 years old, white female, medium height

Jessica represents the next generation of John’s family, mimicking his as a younger boy at the start of the story. She is adventurous, confident, and ready to explore with her parents by her side.

  • Acting experience is desirable, able to take direction

  • Small role, but must look related to the older lead actor
